Range Rover body swap
My name is Ingibjörn Steingrímsson I am 47.
I live on a deserted farm near Dalvik in Northern Iceland, married, have 6 kids and 2 fosterkids.
I haven´t learnt anything special, but I can do almost everything. I grew up with all kinds of everything, electricity, repairs, housebuilding, just name it.
I have always repaired my own cars, from top to bottom.
On this farm where I live I have a garage and I serve the farmers around me. It´s mainly tractors and that kind of machines.
In 1987 I bought a green two doors Range Rover model 72. I have travelled all over Iceland in that car. I have always wanted four doors car so last autumn I finally made the move.
I found 85 model four doors with a great look both inside and outside of the body but the motor was ruined and the chassis too. The chassis of the 72 model was recently repaired so I could use that, but I had to make new inner front wing panel on both sides.
This grey car came from Reykjavík and there they put salt on the streets to keep them clear from ice, and you can just imagine how this makes the cars from there. Here in the north we put sand on the ice it´s a lot better.
Not only was this car four doors but also with a automatic transmission. I changed that. The green one was four gears with high and low gear. I kept the four gear then made high and low gear from the automatic transmission and it works perfectly.
After 8 weeks process the luxury car was ready and I am very happy.
But still there is some things I have to do when I can find time.
For instance I must move the rear axle backwards for about 50mm because of changed size of tyres, and that will take some time.
I hope you will understand what I´m trying to describe. My english is not very perfect.
There is one thing more I want to say. I find it amazing how everything fits between models of the Range Rover. It makes the work more easy.
Ok I think I will end here. If you have more questions, I will try to answer.
Greetings
Ingi
